Recordings of James "Guitar Slim" Stephens, African American blues musician of Greensboro, N.C., who plays both guitar and piano, playing and singing country blues and reciting toasts. He briefly discusses joining the medicine show, his travels by train throughout the Southeast, and the time he spent with Blind Boy Fuller and Sonny Boy Williamson. He also tells a long, detailed memorate about sharecropping in Reidville, S.C., and about why he left the area.
